How do you tell what the time signature and tempo of a song is.?

I'm trying to make a remix in audacity. But, all the songs don't add up together. I'm wondering if there is an easier way to find songs with the same time signature and tempo. i can do it by ear, but its complicated. Is there any way (such as a program) to take an mp3 file and find out what the stuff is.
